We welcome your interest in the settled Senior Minister position at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo. We hope that the material we have presented in our Congregational Packet begins to give you a sense of the congregation we are—our strengths, our challenges, but, perhaps most of all, our hopes for our future and for the role a settled minister can play in leading us forward.
Our recent past is something that we would like to note. Our last settled minister, Rev. Joel Miller, left of his own accord in June of 2011. The Board of Trustees hired intentional interim minister Rev. Margret O’Neall, anticipating a two-year period culminating in a call for a new settled minister. During the first year, Rev. O’Neall and the Board of Trustees decided that a third interim year would be beneficial for the congregation. The congregation voted to extend the interim period for another year. A description of our three-year interim period can be found elsewhere in our packet (see the “What We Envision” tab).
In June of 2013, a search committee was formed with the plan of calling a settled minister in the spring of 2014. We had a very positive and productive search process; however, a settled minister was not called.
Just prior to Rev. O’Neall’s departure in June 2014, the current search committee was established. We anticipate calling a Senior Minister who is the best “right” fit for our congregation. We now work with a new interim minister: Rev. Mary Hnottavange-Telleen is serving our congregation through June 2015.
We have taken much of the work of our previous committee, reviewed it, revised it, added to it; and this is the packet you have. We hope that with this information, and future mutual contacts, you might feel called to serve as Senior Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo. We very much look forward to getting to know you.
For your information we have established neutral pulpit dates of February 8, February 22, and March 8. We anticipate scheduling Candidating Week for April 12-19 or April 26-May 3.
Sincerely,
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo Ministerial Search Committee
