ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COMMUNITY CARE NETWORK
JANUARY 2013-DECEMBER 2014 SUBMITTED BY Ginny Vaughan, Chair Members: Bobbie Baker, Jean Ott, Rev. Margret O’Neall, Christine Derby-Cuadrado, Don, Shed, M.D. , Doug Sherman, Steve Wixson The Joys & Concerns Table was moved to the Ferry Street Entrance. A beautiful bowl for the table was donated by Rebecca McCauley. As a result of moving the table and a new bowl, the committee has seen more people stopping at the table and lighting candles to acknowledge personal joys or concern. People also completed Joy or Concern Card which were read during the Pastoral Prayer. The main focus of the committee is sending cards to church members who are experiencing a joy or concern. Nancy Bukaty writes and sends the majority of the cards. The committee also sends seasonal greetings to members who had a family member die in the past year, or members who are not able to attend services.Ginny Vaughan and Steve Wixson assist with this. Seasonal greetings are sent in an attempt to regain or maintain contact with members who are not able to participate in church activities because of significant health problems. The Community Care Network has continued to provide flowers on the Sunday closest to the first day of spring. We encouraged people to take the flowers and share them with others. ANNUAL REPORT OF THE ACCESSIBILITY/INCLUSION TASK FORCE JULY, 2013-DECEMBER 2013 SUBMITTED BY Ginny Vaughan, Chair Members: Sonja Jensen, DLFD, Christine Derby-Cuadrado,,Membership Coordinator, Kerry Battenfield, Tony Keller, Lynn Mancuso, Tom Petrocelli and Ginny Vaughan The Accessibility-Inclusion Task Force was formed in July after being selected as one of 10 Unitarian Universalist Churches across the United States to pilot a two year program “Disability/Ability Action.” The Disability/Ability Action Plan entails completing an assessment of accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities at UUCB. The committee needs to complete a worship service, several workshop and projects to become an Disability/Ability Action Certified Congregation. Being a Disability/Ability certify church would be quite an honor and asset for the UUCB community We have introduce the Disability/Ability Action Plan at a worship service on November 10th. The committee also presented the first workshop ‘Introduction to Disability Work’ to some of the RE teachers. |
UUCB CELEBRATIONS “COMMITTEE”
ANNUAL REPORT - JANUARY 2014 The Celebrations Committee sponsored two all-church events in 2013: Volunteer Appreciation Sunday – April 7, 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Sunday, celebrated each spring, honors the many volunteers whose willing contributions of energy, time, talent, and love in ministry for UUCB enrich our lives, and inspire us all to transform ourselves in service to our shared principles and each other. Our theme for this year was “A Work of Heart.” Hearts, hand-made by all ages, signaled our recognition of the contributions from their hearts made by all of the unpaid volunteers who staff our church school, sing in the choir, clean the sanctuary, staff the welcome table, fix the lights, govern our congregation, raise funds, remind us our obligations of social justice, and bring food for our celebrations, and otherwise keep us in community. UUCB could not function without the gifts they (you) so generously share with us. A heart-felt thank you to all who have given their hearts to this church. Special recognition was awarded to Sharon Walker, who was elected UUCB’s Volunteer of the Year. Sharon was elected by the Congregation to receive this honor from among 15 candidates nominated by members of the church. Sharon was subsequently honored at a banquet sponsored by the Network of Religious Communities, of which UUCB is a member. Following the service, a reception was held in the Parish Hall. Ingathering Sunday – September 8, 2013 Welcoming everyone to the inaugural Sunday of the new church year, we provided an enhanced coffee hour reception following the service, with cookies and punch. Future Plans: The Celebrations Committee is beginning to examine how to reorganize and function as a Ministry Team. We invite anyone who might be interested in working with us, finding ways to increase fellowship opportunities and to strengthen the bonds of community for all our church family, to let us know of your interest. We are sorry to report that Cathy Pietrzak and Paulette Notaro have resigned from our group. We are very grateful for their wonderful contributions of ideas, support, and hands-on service. Thank you, Cathy and Paulette. Doris Poodry and Kathaleen Burke |
